History has it that agriculture was the mainstay of our nation’s economy and it was like that until the oil revolution. My story began while I was still an undergraduate, I used to tell my mates that instead of sponsoring reality TV shows on music, adventure etc, why can’t we create something on agriculture?
Nigeria will not become rich if we produce and sell more oil. It may already be a cliché, but nations do not grow rich by what they have under the ground.
Rather, the wealth of nations today comes from what her young citizens are engaged with. In our case, we have astute and creative youths who have nothing doing but are willing if they have a platform to start.
We can say we are mere children of necessity and that we are all brothers and sisters born from the womb of one Nigeria. But in rebuilding Nigeria and positioning her for life without oil, which is a matter of when, not if, we must engage the youths on agriculture.
According to International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ghana has overtaken Nigeria as the world’s largest exporter of yam. Nigeria has a larger population than Ghana (70% as youths), along with a larger landmass of which a substantial part is very arable. So why is Ghana, with less human and material resources, overtaking us?
We can’t say there is no land, capital or human resources; we rather have not looked at engaging the teeming young population on agricultural practice in an interesting atmosphere and manner. However we may look at it, the agricultural sector remains the saving grace for the collapsing economy of this great nation called Nigeria. And the way to change this is to start with our youth. We must train up a new generation of Nigerian youth who have a productive mindset and not a consumptive one on agriculture.
We therefore introduce to you ‘’FARM TO FAME’’, an agricultural contest involving 36 contestants (in this case, youths) from the thirty six (36) states across the nation who will contest against each other for the coveted first five (5) positions which are: 10 million naira for the winner, 7 million naira for 2nd runner up, 5 million naira for 3rd runner, 2 million naira each for 4th and 5th runner up and compensation prices for other contestants as designed and powered by GOAL TEAM(a Solutionist team in one of the nation's University of Agriculture). The winners in turn will re-invest their monies/prices back into any agricultural business of their choice.
We can't do this without you...... we need your ''ENDORSEMENT,SUPPORT and SPONSORSHIP''.
This will help us seek for sponsorship from Government Agencies, Corporate Organizations, Private Institutions, Individuals etc
FARM TO FAME promises to be everything you expect from a well planned and entertaining contest geared towards boasting the economy and bringing Agriculture back as the mainstay of our economy with the audience actively involved.
We are a GOAL TEAM; we are just applying our common sense to Agriculturize Nigeria.
